Our Services

Cancer Prevention

At London Gynae Cancer Care, we strongly believe in “prevention is better than cure.” By understanding various risk factors for gynaecological cancers, we help our patients prevent them as much as possible. For instance, cervical and vulval cancers have a strong link to HPV infection. What’s more, the risk of endometrial cancer can increase due to obesity and as a result of some hormone replacement therapies.

Through our Well Woman Checks, you’ll be able to consult with a healthcare professional and discuss your lifestyle, family history, medical history, and any other concerns that you might have. We do this in the most sensitive way and if need be, you will also receive different tests – like blood tests, cervical smear, or get referred for an ultrasound scan.

We also offer specific advice regarding your lifestyle and risk of gynaecological cancers as well as appropriate interventions such as HPV vaccination.

Cervical Cancer Screening

Statistics have it that women aged 35-64 years who are screened have about a 60-80% lower risk of cervical cancer, and the benefits only increase with age. It is estimated that about 4,500 lives are saved each year due to cervical cancer screening. This is why we don’t take chances with cervical cancer screening.

The first step is cervical smearing and this involves retrieving a small sample of cells on the surface of the cervix and examining them under a microscope to detect any abnormalities. These abnormal cells are not usually cancerous but could develop into cancer if left untreated. Depending on the results, you may be tested further for HPV or offered a colposcopy test for a closer examination of the cervix. If any abnormal cells are found, your doctor may recommend their removal through a second colposcopy

Diagnosis of Preinvasive Disease

Whenever there are symptoms suggesting that a disease may be present, we test for specific cancers so that we can identify and treat the disease before it spreads to other tissues. More so, we offer a wide range of tests for the diagnosis of invasive and preinvasive cancers. As appropriate, the tests include tumour marker blood tests, cervical smears, and ultrasound. Should any traces of cancer be detected, further tests include MRI, CT, or PET scans.

Surgical Treatment

London Gynae Cancer Care is capable of providing a full range of minimally invasive (keyhole) and open surgical procedures for dealing with gynaecological cancers. These procedures include:

  • Fertility-sparing surgery (for treating cervical or ovarian cancer)
  • Laparotomies (for treatment of advanced ovarian cancer)
  • Radical ovarian cancer surgery (for the therapy of primary and recurrent diseases)
  • Minimal access surgery (treatment of endometrial cancer)
  • Radical vulval or cervical cancer excisions
  • Minor therapeutic and diagnostic procedures like hysteroscopy and EUA (examination under anaesthesia for cervical cancer staging.

We have adopted this extensive range of surgical options to ensure that every treatment we offer is tailored to the specific needs and wishes of our patients.

Chemotherapy and Radiotherapy

Chemotherapy or radiotherapy could be necessary for adjuvant treatment (to reduce the chances of cancer recurring after surgery) or neoadjuvant therapy (to reduce tumour size before surgery). If it comes to this, London Gynae Cancer care will make the necessary referral arrangement.
